Preacher won’t be the only Garth Ennis project on television, as Cinemax has put The Boys into project development with Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg heading the project.
Deadline reports on the story, though many of us The Boys would find its way to one of the cable networks to reap the dollars.
The series is set between 2006–2008 in a world where superheroes exist. However, most of the superheroes in the series’ universe are corrupted by their celebrity status and often engage in reckless behavior, compromising the safety of the world. For this reason, a superpowered CIA squad, known informally as “The Boys”, is charged with monitoring the superhero community; the name is Butcher’s contribution, a reference from his neighborhood that those in power would send “the boys” to handle anyone causing trouble.
Garth Ennis has said that The Boys out-Preachers Preacher, and if you have read the first issue, where that thing happens to Wee Hugie’s girlfriend, the you know the story has the potential to be over the top crazy when it hits the airwaves.
The big question I have is, “Will Simon Pegg play Wee Hughie?”
There is no word on a potential release date, but I have a feeling we’ll know more once Preacher airs on AMC and the ratings come in.
