The first image of the Netflix animated series Voltron: Legendary Defender has appeared on line, and fans are gonna flip…

The first footage will be screened today(Friday) at WonderCon in Los Angeles. Voltron: Legendary Defender is produced by DreamWorks Animation, the same group that is doing the original Netflix series based on the How to Train Your Dragon animated movies.

“We’re trying to keep as much of that classic feel to it as we can, because ultimately we have huge amounts of nostalgia for (the original) show,” said co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery in a interview with USA Today.

Legendary Defender centers on five Earth teenagers — Keith, Lance, Hunk, Pidge and Shiro — who are thrown into the middle of an intergalactic battle and become the last line of defense for Arus and other planets against an evil alien force led by King Zarkon.

The first season of the online series will arrive on Netflix later this year.

  1. My best friend is more excited for this than I am. That isn’t saying I’m not excited, she’s just… Overboard excited. She left me a video in my email of nothing more than her screaming “VOLTRON!” over and over and playing with her Voltron toys.

I’m just a little cautious after the last series didn’t really click for me, but I’m still hopeful this will be a fun series.

  2. After the last series, I’m kind of skeptical.
The original Voltron was geared to kids, but coming from the anime, it was only slightly dumbed down.
The last series sucked, especially with all the kids. Wendy and Marvin for every lion. Expanding on powers, some of which didn’t make sense.
Hopefully they learned from their mistake.
