Remember how much you loved Pete’s Dragon when it was originally released in 1977? Me neither, which is why it is so surprising Disney decided to remake the film. But after seeing the first trailer for the film, the studio might be on to something.

There are two important things to take away from this trailer; first, the movie takes place in modern times instead of the good ol’ days of the late 1800s, and second, there are not musical montages featuring an inebriated Mickey Rooney. Though the dragon still looks very cartoony, Pete’s Dragon¬†already has my interest, and will more than likely be a family night event when it arrives on August 12th.

I loved Pete’s Dragon as a kid. (I was 6, I didn’t know better). Definitely one of those childhood films that didn’t hold up with an adult viewing. I’m very curious to see this one.
