Artistic preference is a strange beast: For 20 years now, give or take a hiatus, I’ve been reading and enjoying Astro City, a series featuring covers and art design by Alex Ross, whose work I otherwise just don’t enjoy. Having been there in 1993, when his work suddenly exploded everywhere, I was as impressed as any fanboy or girl, but I’ve never had the awed response (or the insistence that All Comics should look like his) that some of my peers had, leading to today’s entirely subjective query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) couldn’t live in a world permanently suffused with hellish orange twilight, but maybe that’s just me, asking: What aspects of our favorite pop culture make you say “I don’t get it” the most?

I don’t understand the Cult of Boba Fett. He’s a third rate bounty hunter who has to work as Jabba’s bodyguard to pay his rent, and he’s not smart enough to understand that when you disintegrate something, it dies. Sure, he looks kind of cool for a space hobo, I guess, but I can’t understand why everyone is so in love with him.
Lens Flare!
How the heck does Doggie Kruger’s big dog shaped head fit inside that small human head sized helmet when he becomes DekaMaster?
I also don’t understand most fandoms, particularly the elitist fans who think if someone doesn’t like a certain version of a movie/show/game/book/etc than the other that it means they aren’t “real” fans. I understand liking one version over another (such as a lot of anime and manga), or liking certain incarnations of a franchise but not others (like old/new Doctor Who or Transformers various incarnations across multiple media), but I don’t understand why some folks take it like it is a personal insult and get aggressive.
Yeah, one I wonder the most is “I don’t like it, so no one else should either”. There’s room for discussions what works, is good and so forth, but too often its absolutes of best or worst ever and insults to anyone who thinks otherwise. This is no exclusive to pop culture but internet in general, though.
Morphing.
