When Alex Hirsch announced he was ending Gravity Falls, he made note that he didn’t know what he was going to do next. Oh what two months can do.
Hirsch, the creator of Gravity Falls, is now working with Fox to develop an animated series for the network. This really doesn’t come as a big surprise; for someone who works in animation there were only three places he could go to develop new work – Disney, Nick, or Fox. With Nickelodeon being a bit odd on its decisions to cancel, continue, or release series in a giant dump (Legend or Kora), going to Nick doesn’t seem like a place Hirsch would thrive. He’s already said goodbye to Disney, which means the animation domination block at Fox is now obvious.
That being said, when Hirsch said he didn’t know what he would be doing next, he was being honest, as deals at Fox may not have been nailed down yet. However, the “gosh shucks” approach Hirsch used to make it seem like he would be taking time off while he found his next project now seem kind of hollow, at least to someone like me who is a big fan of Gravity Falls. Yes, I’m still bitter of Gravity Falls ending on February 15th.
Whatever project Hirsch is working on, you can bet millions of fans will be watching, which means Fox is about to land a huge spike in viewership when the Untitled Alex Hirsch Project airs.

I almost wonder if he legitimately didn’t know, and some exec at Fox saw his post and scooped him up with an offer he couldn’t refuse after they soured on Cassius and Clay, which was just unceremoniously dropped.
Either way, I’ll miss Gravity Falls and I look forward to Hirsch’s project with Fox! This will definitely free him up to do something more adult, which he’s been wanting to do for a long time now.
