As seems to be the standard in the film industry, when a woman is cast in an iconic part – or even a leading role – she comes under exceptional scrutiny in comparison to her male counterparts. Gal Gadot has become a topic of discussions and opinions across the internet since her casting by director Zack Snyder in the part of Diana Prince a.k.a. Wonder Woman. Women and men have been extremely vocal about their opinions on Gadot, despite the fact that Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice does not hit theaters until March 25th of this year.
In an interview with Film Ink today Snyder talked about what brought Gadot to Batman V Superman and what, ultimately, made her Wonder Woman – also revealing that only six women screen tested for the part.
“We tested a bunch of actresses, as you can imagine. But the thing with Gal is that she’s strong, she’s beautiful, and she’s a kind person, which is interesting, but fierce at the same time. It’s that combination of being fierce but kind at the same time that we were looking for. She can get serious, but she’s amazingly fun to be around. And by the way, she really held her own with Ben in the screen test. Ben was like, ‘Whoa, that girl is something else!’ That was a good sign, because Ben is very tough in the scene, and he’s big and commanding. Anytime that you’re doing a test like that and you’re looking at the other person, you’re thinking, ‘Okay, that’s good stuff.’ That was part of the process, and over time as we got to know Gal, we found out how amazing she is.”

Didn’t a lot of people bitch and moan when Ben Afflek was cast as Batman? Comparatively little has been said about Gadot, I believe.
I believe that when she was cast people commented about her being “too skinny”, then again after the horrible David E. Kelley interpretation of the character and the costume worn by Adrianne Palicki, Gabot had it won just by the fact her costume did not look like it was a cheap Halloween rubber suit. It’s a Xena inspired WW costume, which is what most wanted anyway.
Her character interpretation in the film is pretty much the only thing I look forward to along with the intro of Aquaman, sadly the whole Batman/Superman/Lex Luthor/Doomsday is going to get in the way of that, seriously I get the feeling this is going to be one of those movies where the story gets in the way.
Plus the whole plot is spoiled in the trailer…
