If you are bored, or need to relax, DC Comics will release a number of black and white variant covers that you can color, arriving in January.
There’s nothing really different about the black and white variants, except DC Comics is tagging them as Adult Coloring Book Variants. For me, coloring is coloring, regardless if you are an adult or kid. I’m not sure where this sudden trend of tagging things as Adult Coloring Books came from, but I bet it is from the same people who created the Man-Bun or Mig-Tails…. Perhaps the idea of simply calling it a Coloring Book Variant makes the idea seem childish, and for those who are trying to move away from the stigma of comics are for kids, adding another layer of potential ridicule must be like throwing gas on the fire. So call it an Adult Coloring Book – it’s fine by me.
If you don’t want to color the cover of these comic books when they arrive in January, you can also download and print the covers off so you can color while you are waiting for your Adult Caffeinated Beverage with Your Name Written On It.
Me? I’m going to open these in Photoshop and practice my digital color, because the industry is always looking for more colorists.
