Of all the changes wrought by the New 52, the one that I find myself most lamenting is the elimination of the first generation of superheroes from the time-stream. Yes, they made sure that they all still existed on Earth-2, but as problematic as their histories were, the idea of the Justice Society actually debuting at the beginning of the modern superhero circa the late 30s is one that I enjoy, for reasons both in-universe and out. Of course, it also removes Wildcat as the man who helped to train Black Canary and Batman, Green Lantern as the original hero of Gotham City, and Jay Garrick as the father figure for three later generations of super-speedsters, all of which were concepts rife with dramatic potential. The modern JSA may have been a nightmare of “reasons why they’re immortal”, but they were a nightmare that had resonance within the story, leading us to today’s senior query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) really misses Jay Garrick as ‘Grampa Flash’, as well as the two-fisted philosophizin’ of a septuagenarian Wildcat, asking: Do you miss the idea of the Elder Heroes teaching the new young turks, as seen in the pre-Flashpoint Justice Society Of America?

More than ever. Pre New 52 JSA is one of my favorite books of all time.
Completely, it was such a great concept. As I get older, I realize that the old mentor characters tend to be my favorites in ensembles. Obi Wan, Iroh, Jay Garrick, etc.
I miss the older Heroes but I really would have liked to have seen Batman retire and have a new group of superheros taking their place..
Long Live the Legion!!!
