As a kid, I was satisfied with a Kenner land speeder, and tie-fighter for my action figures. However, as I’ve grown older, the desire to have life-size prop replicas and camera ready pieces moves closer to the forefront. In a new Tested episode, Norm goes to the Replica Prop Forum get together to check out a highly detailed replica of the Star Wars TIE Bomber seen in The Empire Strikes Back.
At the recent Replica Prop Forum project showcase, we met visual effects modelmaker Jonathan Faber, who brought his scratch-built studio scale TIE Bomber. This model is an exacting replica of the filming miniature used in The Empire Strikes Back, including the greeblies sourced from WWII and rocket kits like the ones used by ILM’s modelmakers. I wish I had the time and patience to make things like these. The last model I built is still glued to the dining room table at my parent’s house.
The replica in the video looks totally awesome and something all model makers to aspire to.

For me, my last model… Well, I got bored about halfway through and started “improving” it by hot gluing weapons and stuff to it. It kinda looks like something you might see in a “Mad Max” movie.
