There are a couple of rules when it comes to comic books: The only thing better than Something-Woman is Captain Something, and the only thing better than that is Doctor Whatever.  Though I occasionally doubt the validity of the MD/PhD’s of the likes of Otto Octavius, there’s no question that being a Doctor is awesome, especially if it comes without all the cumbersome learning, and/or surgical procedures, which leads us to today’s higher learning query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) stipulates that, if you choose a certain Gallifreyan, you must identify ONE incarnation of said Time Lord (’cause I said so), asking: Who is the greatest fictional doctor (medical or otherwise) in all history?

The Author

Matthew Peterson

Matthew Peterson

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture!

And a nice red uniform.

The Rowan Atkinson version of The Doctor from “The Curse of Fatal Death”. Why? Because it was Mr. Bean/Edmund Blackadder as The Doctor, how awesome is that?

Or several of the doctors of Star Trek. Leonard McCoy, Julian Bashir, Voyager’s EMH and Phlox are all awesome. Of all of them, I really enjoy the EMH because it was interesting watching him struggle to become more than just a mere program and evolve into an individual, which says a lot considering I otherwise didn’t care that much for “Voyager” in general.

Of course, there is something to be said for John Dorian’s creation, Dr. Acula.

Dr. Bong. You have no idea how happy it made me to see you use a picture of him for the article.

I’m still amused by Doctor Doogie Howser growing up to become the evil-yet-toneful Doctor Horrible.

    Dr. Sheldon Cooper, hands down!

But I’ll second the vote for Doctor Edmund Blackadder from ‘The Curse of the Fatal Death’..
