The first Saturday in May is always a great one, as comic book stores around the country give away free comic books. Some, like my store, limit the number of books you can get (7 per customer), others ask you to buy a comic to get a comics, and others incentivize by asking you to bring a canned good for a free comics. We want to hear your stories from Free Comic Book Day 2015!

What was your favorite book?
What activities and events did your store do (be sure to include the store name and city)?
Were cosplayers on hand?

Use the comment section below to share your story, and let’s fill the comment section up with more stories than star in the sky, or sand on the beach, or at the very least more comments than the total number of books available on Free Comic Book Day!

  1. FCBD was great this year. We did awesome business and lots of people came into the store and actually bought something. We give anyone who comes in 3 books and if you come in costume you get 6. Costume even includes just wearing a superhero T-Shirt (most of the time). Hint/advice to people wanting to get a lot of books on FCBD: If you’re not too particular about the books you want or have gotten some and want a lot more, hit your store up at the end of the day. You’ll probably end up getting one of each because we’re lazy and don’t want to have to pack all of it up. Our store is Graham Crackers Comics, Wheaton IL. There are 8 other locations throughout the Illinois area with one opening in Madison, WI soon! Yay comics!

  2. My local comic shop (Comically Speaking, Reading, MA) had a sale on back issues for FCBD. I took the opportunity to fill in some issues of Thor: God of Thunder and Hellboy. The store limits you to three free comics, so it can be difficult to choose. I went with Avatar the Last Airbender, Bob’s Burgers, and my personal favorite, Captain Canuck (What can I say? My ancestors are from the True North). Yes, it’s basically Canadian Captain America leading Canadian SHIELD, but the new ongoing series that was previewed looks interesting, so I’m curious. Plus, what other title would advertise maple syrup as super hero comic book merchandise?
