Diagram for Delinquents (Movie)
In 1950, America was in a state of panic; many felt that juvenile delinquency was destroying the very fabric of society. In 1954, psychiatrist Dr. Fredric Wertham wrote a scathing indictment of comic books called Seduction of the Innocent. Its central premise was that comics were the leading contributing factor to juvenile delinquency. (At the time, 90% of all children were reading comic books.) That same year, Dr. Wertham testified at special hearings on comic books at the Senate Subcommittee to Investigate Juvenile Delinquency in the United States. Comic books were on trial!
Diagram for Delinquents captures the zeitgeist of late 1940s / early 1950s America and investigates how the funny books found themselves on the bonfire. Using expert interviews and never-seen-before historical photographs and films, Diagram goes further than any documentary to explore and understand the controversial figure at the center of this American tale: Fredric Wertham.
The DVD (as well as a digital download version) is now available for purchase at the Sequart Store.

Regarding Aquaman costume, which is great btw, I think Stephen kinda missed the point of complaints. I’ve not seen anyone criticizing the costume or look itself, rather than Warner Brothers’ mentality of steering away from any comic book reference in their promotion in favor of “gritty” and whatever buzzwords marketing uses nowadays. I think everyone knows Aquamans and Wonder Womans costumes have more than one color, its more about the marketing and what kind of atmosphere they try to create around these movies.
Thats why so many people like Marvels superhero films, they dont try to be anything else than comic book movies, embrace the sillyness and bright spandex, yet they manage to make movies that arent viewed as kiddy movies or jokes. Meanwhile, Warner still seems to be ashamed to do superhero or comic book movie and tries to gear it towards bald-MMA-marine-soldier loving dudebros. This is the thing I dont like, not the costumes or looks themselves. This same mentality lead us to “realistic” growling Batman driving army APC, which is silly idea to begin with and Superman snapping necks. I still think those movies are going to be good, but at the same time I feel this aforementioned mentality is holding them back to become great.
Hi Malone, thanks for your comments! I do see where you are coming from in regards to the gritty feel WB is going for in the promo images. I guess for me it isn’t that big of a deal because since the ’80s with the launch of The Dark Knight Returns, which totally changed the way the public viewed heroes (and was a huge success), that is the go-to winning method the studios see as a way to attract the audience. Also, since Snyder quoted The Dark Knight Returns in his WB/SDCC presentation two years ago, my mindset has been dark and gritty direction since then. Will we get something that is the ’70s Superfriends? Probably not ever. If the writers of Dawn of Justice are smart, they would take a note from Whedon who uses the Dark-Dark-Dark-Dark-Humor-Repeat method of story telling since his days on Buffy.
Yes, I agee that Superfriends style isnt the best either nowadays. Whedon style is is probably the best solution in my opinion too.
Thanks again for having me on this week Stephen! It was a lot of fun, and hopefully it answers some questions. If anyone would like any further information or have specific questions feel free to hit me up @techintrade on the twitters :)
