It was rumored, then we saw some speculation on how it would be developed, and today it has been confirmed that Director Neill Blomkamp will direct a new Alien movie for 20th Century Fox.

Blomkamp, the director of District 9, Elysium, and the upcoming Chappie, will lead the new Alien movie, which is seperate from Prometheus 2 that Ridley Scott is helming.

According to insiders, the new “Alien” takes place years after the “Prometheus” sequel. (Ridley) Scott is producing both films through his production company Scott Free.

I’m really okay with multiple Alien movies in production at the same time as the franchise can go in many different directions and bring the horror and suspense to many different planets, situations, and characters.

There’s no word on a release date beyond what Blomkamp shared via Instagram.

Um… So I think it’s officially my next film. #alien
