Wizards of the Coast took to Reddit’s AMA this week, and the company revealed plans for new Dungeons and Dragons products, in addition to plans on the Open Gaming License.
According to Senior Manager for the D&D research and design team Mike Mearls, the company plans to bring two campaign products to market each year, and the company already has everything planned out through 2018.
The next two storyline adventure books, The Elemental Evil Adventurer’s Handbook and Princes of the Apocalypse will arrive on March 17, which we hope is after the already delayed Dungeon Master’s Handbook.
According to the leaked info from ENWorld, The Elemental Evil Adventurer’s Handbook is a Dungeons & Dragons accessory that includes player information for the Elemental Evil story arc. It includes skills, abilities and spells as well as background, setting, and story information. The hardcover has an MSRP of $39.95.
The article at ENWorld detailed the adventure behind Princes of the Apocalypse, which appears to have been confirmed in the AMA.
Princes of the Apolcalypse (March 17, 2015; hardcover; $49.95) — A Dungeons & Dragons Adventure.
Abolish an Ancient Evil Threatening Devastation in this Adventure for the World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game
Called by the Elder Elemental Eye to serve, four corrupt prophets have risen from the depths of anonymity to claim mighty weapons with direct links to the power of the elemental princes. Each of these prophets has assembled a cadre of cultists and creatures to serve them in the construction of four elemental temples of lethal design. It is up to adventurers from heroic factions such as the Emerald Enclave and the Order of the Gauntlet to discover where the true power of each prophet lay, and dismantle it before it comes boiling up to obliterate the Realms.
A super-adventure for the Elemental Evil story arc, Princes of the Apocalypse provides everything a Dungeon Master needs to create an exciting and memorable play experience.
Fans of the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Roleplaying Game can get a sample of what this product has in store for them through the D&D Encounters(TM) in-store play program.

Probably the biggest news that came from the question and answer session was word that Wizards of the Coast may be bringing back the Open Gaming License. When questioned, the response was, “Yes – we’re working on plans right now to allow people to use the D&D system to create their own stuff.”
Though there were other questions regarding the Open Gaming License, the only other bit of information that appears to confirm the company’s plan to make this happen was ” we do plan to announce something within the next couple of months or so.”
I wonder if we’ll hear about the Open Gaming License in March, which would coincide with the two new game book releases.

My players are already complaining about the first adventure holding them hostage. From the start at first level they were informed that if they don’t help the world would be lost. So the entire life of their characters will be about fighting the Cult of the Dragon. I really hope this next adventure is not like that.
