For years I’ve been waiting to see what kind of sequel would appear for Gareth Edward’s Monsters. Today, the first trailer for Monsters: Dark Continent has landed, and it is full of giant monsters.

Ten years on from the events of Monsters, and the ‘Infected Zones’ have now spread worldwide. In the Middle East a new insurgency has begun. At the same time there has also been a proliferation of Monsters in that region. The Army decide to draft in more numbers to help deal with this insurgency.

We follow four fresh new recruits from Detroit as they all excitedly look forward to performing what they were trained to do.

Though this looks really cool, especially in light of the recent Kaiju craze that is building across the country, this somehow feels like a story I’ve seen before. Though this takes place on Earth, substitute the flesh monsters with hard shelled arachnids, and Monsters: Dark Continent sure feels like we’re watching a different take on Starship Troopers.
