During their presentation today, Paramount surprised fans with footage from their upcoming film SpongeBob: Sponge Out of Water. Of course, it surprised me that a SpongeBob movie was happening at all. Take a look at the first image for the film.

What you are seeing above is how the characters of the film will look when they leave their home of Bikini Bottom and come up on land. Previously whenever the characters would leave the water we would simply see crude representations of the characters controlled by wooden sticks, so the 3D CG is a huge departure from anything we have seen before.

According to Joey Paur at Geek Tyrant the footage that was shown won the crowd over and “was pretty damn funny.” Hearing that and seeing this image, I am actually intrigued about this movie. It looks like the creators will bring the ridiculous, which Spongebob was always good at and I always enjoyed about the show when I watched it regularly.

SpongeBob: Sponge Out of Water comes to theaters February 13th, 2015 and stars Antonio Banderas, Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, and Douglas Lawrence.
