Growing up as I did in the 1980s, with the nigh-perfect Huxtables and the Keatons on my television, I sometimes worried about my own weird relatives.  As someone who has more than once described a friend as “the sister I already had, but didn’t care for, so I went and found another one”, it was sometimes fun to imagine being a part of something different, such as G.I. Joe’s Arashikage ninja clan or Marvel’s extended Richards-Storm family.  Heck, it might even be fun to hang out with The Munsters of Mockingbird Lane, which leads us to today’s relative query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) thinks that the Parr family from ‘The Incredibles’ would make for another interesting choice, asking: What fictional family would you choose to become part of, given the choice?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture!

And a nice red uniform.

I would probably want to be a second son in the Hightower family from A Song of Ice and Fire, then become a maester of the Citadel in Oldtown. Part of a noble house, but also given the freedom to stay close to home and study knowledge for my entire life without being burdened by being a Lord. Sounds amazing.

As a very young child, my eldest brother once told me I was adopted from the Addams Family, which made me cry. I didn’t cry because he said it, but because I found out it wasn’t true.

I think one of my top choices would have to be Clan Skirata from the Star Wars Republic/Imperial Commando novels. I’d look pretty good in Mandalorian armor and I already have a belief similar to the Mando view on family, that family isn’t blood or genes but the people you care about and who care about you.

Of course, I wouldn’t mind being part of the Ozu family from Magiranger because I’d have a chance at being a Super Sentai Ranger.
