Wow! I just saw some of the first 3D animated footage from the upcoming Asterix: The Land of the Gods movie, and it makes me wish two things, 1) That I could speak French, and 2) that Asterix was more popular in the United States so we could get this movie in theaters stateside.
This clip comes from M6 and features Caesar revealing his plans for those Gauls that keep plaguing the Romans.
GAH! I want to see this NOW! Mansion of the Gods may have to be the next Asterix volume reviewed during our annual Thanksgiving Retro Review.
With the intent to wipe out the Gaulish village by any means necessary, Caesar concocts a plan to absorb the villagers into Roman culture by having an estate built next to the village to start a new Roman colony. The colony is to be called the Mansions of the Gods.

I can’t wait to see this. And Astier is doing the adaptation, so I have no doubt it’s going to be great (for those of you who speak French, I cannot recommend enough “Kaamelott”, a spoof on King Arthur and the knights of the round table, done in sketches…it is hilarious…and lasted 5 years on French television (we have the DVD collection here in Canada…)).
So this is done by great guys (the animator worked for Pixar, if I remember), adapting a great Astérix comic. And I always like to hear what our friend Matthew has to say about French comics (I don’t remember…does he speak French?).
I grew up on the french version of Asterix and really hope they do an english translation. They are some of my favorite comics and enjoy them immensely even today.
