Art Appreciation Moment of the Day: Mauricio Abril

Today, Mauricio Abril sums up the sadness we all feel that Spider-Man can’t play with the rest of the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I suppose this is what happens when you cross fan art with social commentary. I came up with the idea for this gag illustration after watching “The Amazing Spiderman 2″ on opening weekend, but only just now got around to finishing it. It pretty much summarizes how I felt about the new franchise, the larger Marvel cinematic universe and the realities of binding contracts.

As always, behind-the-scenes and making-of blog posts will be found on my site at

A great cartoony piece that at first made me think that I was looking at the set of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.  Would love to see this animated with live action humans and the cartoon figures that Mauricio has shared with us.
