StarWars.com released the following image and information regarding all of the actors cast for the next Star Wars film!
Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.
Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”
Others will join the cast, I’m sure, but this is a good start, and pretty much confirms everything we’ve been hearing these last couple of months. I’m most impressed with the announcement that Max von Sydow will join the cast!

Oh man! Max Von Sydow! Begin the speculation on who he’s playing. Thrawn? Another high level Imperial officer? A new Sith lord?
J.J. Abrams does something Lucas could never do – make a Flash/Star Wars crossover!
There’s a distinct lack of female cast members :( Hopefully they’ll announce a couple more before too long.
Nice to see a couple of established names in the first announcement though.
About thirty years ago, I might have tapped Max Von Sydow to play the heavy, because when his hair was black, he looked sinister without even trying, but when I look at his recent pictures, I actually think he looks more like an aged Jedi mentor now. I’m afraid you Flash reference went completely over my head, Stephen…
George Lucas original wanted to make a big screen adaptation of Flash Gordon, but Dino de Laurentiis got the rights ahead of him (and supposedly the studio didn’t want Lucas touching the property), so George went on to make Star Wars instead. Max von Sydow played Ming in the 80’s film, and is now in the Star Wars films…
Max Von Sydow always plays a bad guy though. Even when he seems straight he always is the real bad guy by the end.
I have to say that this picture really served it’s purpose for me. I’m really hyped about seeing all the old actors together in the same room reading scripts. I really hope Abrams doesn’t screw this up. I was pretty unhappy with his Star Trek movies but that’s mostly because they were more Space Opera than Fiction. But Star Wars is the right place for that sort of thing.
