Thanks to one of my friends introducing me to a competitive trivia game app for my phone, I’ve found validation of what I always knew: I have FAR too much knowledge of superhero fiction and comic books.  Still, given that this pool of knowledge has led to me getting a regular paycheck or two to augment my family income, I can’t say as I’m too busted up about it.  In fact, there are still portions of pop culture where I am nothing more than a tourist, including much of the world of manga.  A lot of the recent fictions aimed at the cool kids, such as ‘The Hunger Games’ books, seem like they might have some attraction for me, as well, but I haven’t yet found the intersection of access, intention and time to read.  Still, they’re on a vague and massive ‘To-Do List’ somewhere in the back of my head, which leads to today’s rather pointed query…

The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) has long had a vague sense that I should find out more about Sailor Moon, but there are so many different iterations and dubs, asking:  What specific title, film or property do you most want to get into but haven’t yet accessed?

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture!

There are a number of video games and video game series that I’d love to get into, but I don’t have the right console(s) to play it/them. A few examples include the “Infamous” series, “Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe” and “Final Fantasy XIII”.

There is also a tokusatsu series aimed at older audiences called “GARO” that I’d love to get into, but I just haven’t gotten around to finding subs yet.

I’d also love to be able to get into the Doctor Who audio dramas, particularly those involving the 8th Doctor, but with my hearing problem (I’m legally deaf) it would be nearly impossible to understand unless I also had a transcript to follow. Similarly, I’d like to get my hands on the rest of the 8th Doctor novels that I have yet to read (Have only read three or four).

I second the game thing — not because I don’t have access to them, but because I don’t have the time. I enjoy watching competitive Starcraft II especially, along with some of the other ‘esports’ scene, but I just don’t have the hours to practice to get even remotely good at any of them. Bronze league heroes all the way!!
