You may have heard the news already, but if you haven’t, Variety reports that Marvel Studios is moving ahead with a Black Widow movie – well ahead of Warner Bros. stand alone Wonder Woman movie.
According to the feature article at Varity, while Black Widow will have a role in the movie, it is the exploration of the character that demands a stand alone flick.
“(Black) Widow’s part in that is very big,” Feige said. “We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that.”
Keep in mind development work does not mean that Marvel Studios is ready to lens the project, that everyone is on board, or that a script has even been developed. Still, this seems further along than a standalone Wonder Woman movie, as the last time we heard from WB the word was that Gal Gadot had signed to play Wonder Woman in a solo flick. At least Marvel Studios seems to have a solid notion of what to do with Black Widow.

I hope Marvel does make a Black Widow movie and that it is successful, if for no other reason than to shut down the last bulls**t excuse Warner’s been hiding behind why they can’t/won’t make more superhero movies.
“So-and-so is too obscure to carry their own movie.”
Has this stopped Marvel from running full steam ahead with Guardians of the Galaxy or Ant-Man? Hell, Iron Man was pretty much a B-list character before his movies.
“There aren’t enough recognizable villains for a movie.”
Take it back to Iron Man: could John Q. Public name ANY Iron Man villain before those movies came out? Does the “average movie-goer” know ANY Captain America villain aside from Red Skull? Has that stopped Marvel from doing the Winter Soldier?
“This character’s origin/backstory is too out there and strange for a movie.”
Thor. I could just leave it at that, but again, Guardians of the Galaxy, too.
The only remaining excuse they hide behind is, “Female superhero movies never work.”
So I hope Marvel does make a Black Widow movie before Warner can make a Wonder Woman one, and that turns out to be a success. Because suck it Warner Brothers–you lose.
Scar-Jo has done such a brilliant job in her portrayals, I know she can make this incredible!
I agree. She’s a fine actress in anything she does (even in movies I dislike), and she did an absolutely wonderful job bringing Black Widow to the screen in her appearances.
Phft! I wasn’t thrilled with her portrayal, but I haven’t really liked the movies coming out of that studio. Should have been somebody more exotic looking or more physical like Gina Carano.
