Kill a character, and he or she is bound to return, bigger, stronger, faster, more awesome than before. Or maybe the character comes back more spectacular, amazing, and all-new than before…. That didn’t work out quite right, and speaking of not quite right, this week we learn the fate of one of our favorite characters – one that was expected to be dead much longer than 13 months.
According to the New York Daily News, Peter Parker is returning as the Amazing Spider-Man in April. It’s only been 13 months since Peter Parker was killed by Doctor Octopus – who then transferred his mind into Parker’s body. But when has dead in comic actually meant dead? What makes this more interesting is writer Dan Slott had all the plans in place for over a year, and has been quiet the entire time.
“To do that for a solid year of my life, that’s the hardest thing I’ve had to do — to look small children in the eye at a convention and lie to them,” says Slott. “One of them with an honest-to-God Little League uniform and a quivering lip. Inside, part of me was dying.”
I guess the most interesting part of the return of Peter Parker is that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 movie arrives in theaters on May 2, 2014, just a month after Peter Parker returns to comics. “A coincidence?” you ask. Yeah… something like that.
How will Peter Paker return? There’s a twist in the death and return to life of Peter Parker, according to Dan Slott, and we’ll find out this week when the new issue arrives at your local comic book shop.

Well, Douglas Coupland said that every moment is a coincidence… But it was Jack Donaghy who said, “You can’t fight synergy, Lemon, it’s bigger than all of us.”
Okay, I was a month off in my prediction when you asked how long it would be until Peter was back. I should have realized they would need to have Peter back in the body before the movie came out.
Yep. Called it.
I’m guessing Doctor Octopus’ attempt to wipe Peter from his mind never completed took. What I’m really curious is how this will affect Doc Ock’s status quo going forward.
I know why they make these announcements, but the story would be much more fun if I didn’t know exactly when this was going to happen. I will be glad to have Peter back Spider-man is one of my favorite superheros and while I have enjoyed some of the stuff they had done with Ock as Spidey it will be nice to Peter back. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
I enjoyed the Superior Spiderman run more than I expected, but I will be glad that Peter is back. Hopefully they push his character forward in some way.
