With my excitement this week about the meeting of the Doctors (only the fifth such televised meeting in as many decades, I might add) I’ve been thinking about the concept of the crossover. These days you can’t twirl a giraffe without bumping into a story that constitutes someone’s dream team-up, from the myriad of agglomerated ‘Dark Fairy Tale’ adaptations, to the continuing tales of the League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen all the way through the upcoming Batman-reboot-disguised-as-Superman-sequel. If two (or even more) characters have any sort of fanbase at all, one can certainly find Tumblrs dedicated to their combined adventures and/or romance, and I can’t even parse the number of “fictional characters dressed as other fictional characters” images I’ve run into in my recent Intarwebz meandering. Would Twilight Sparkle clash with Perfect Tommy? Can Kerr Avon co-exist with Charles Muntz? Who gets the best parking spot: Michael Knight or Speed Racer? Seein’ as how I’m in a fanboy tizzy until at least Monday (depending on how disappointed I get tomorrow at around 3 p.m. CST), this whole line of thought begs another query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) has always wanted to see 1967-era Captain Kirk facing off with Han Solo circa ‘Empire Strikes Back’, if only to see if Jim takes a run at Princess Leia, asking: If you could green-light an official team-up/crossover story with ANY two characters or properties, which would be the most awesome?

New 52 Batman and 40’s Batman double the Batman and a chance to mess with people’s preconceptions of the character.
Buffy/Supernatural. Rather than a proper crossover of the two franchises, it would be something silly like a spell or a wish/soul deal gone wrong in the Supernatural world that causes the fictional Buffy Summers to appear. It wouldn’t be any stranger than the episode “The French Mistake”.
Orem and the entire “cast” of Elf Quest.
I would like to see Batman forced to work with an unwitting Archibald Bunker after he witnesses something in his bar, but doesn’t realize what it is.
As a result, Batman is forced to both protect Archie while trying to figure out what he knows, and keep him around to help solve the crime.
Slappy, that is probably the most absurdly brilliant crossover idea I’ve ever heard.
Thank you
I really think it would work though.
Can we re-animate Carrol O’Connor?
Captain American and Uncle Sam in a title called The Fighting Fathers.
