These days, if you want to see unlikely character crossovers, all you have to do is navigate your way to Tumblr. When I was a wee child, it was a much different world, and I clearly remember the utter mind-blowing shock of seeing Superman and Spider-Man joining forces in that giant tabloid comic. It was a truly transcendent bit of nerdery for me, which led to many an idle wondering about additional character crossovers: Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers? Knight Rider and Airwolf? The Dukes Of Hazzard and Star Wars? Anything was possible in the far-off regions of your brain, but come the 21st century, and many of these stories are actually being written and produced in professional-type form. I never thought I’d live to see The Doctor and James T. Kirk battling side-by-side, but as this week’s Retro Review proves, anything is possible if the character rights end up in the right place. This, in turn, begs a query…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) will always have a fondness for Archie Vs. Punisher, but has to give the nod to ‘A Fifth of Beethoven’, asking: What do you consider the most enjoyable mashup/crossover in pop culture history?

JLA/Avengers – You could spend hours just staring at the artwork, crammed with characters all caught in moments you were dying to see when you imagine both universes crossing over.
One of my favorites was the Marvel/DC crossovers established in the DC vs Marvel/Marvel vs DC mini-series, the resulting Amalgam comics and the later series where Access was trying to keep the two worlds from merging again.
More recently, I was absolutely beyond joy because of the Kamen Rider and Super Sentai crossovers (both the Decade/Shinkenger crossover and Super Hero Taisen), but that only enhanced with the Kamen Rider/Super Sentai/Metal Heroes crossover Super Hero Taisen Z.
Community and Cougar Town, because why?
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen really got me on a literary kick back in high school.
Alien Vs. Predator is mine. when the two meet, who loses? the Humans obviously.
Star Trek and Futurama… “Welshyyyyy!”
“You see, the show was banned after the Star Trek wars”
“You mean the vast migration of Star Wars fans?”
“No, that was the Star Wars trek.”
