As a wise man once said, “Lots of planets have a north!” That’s not really apropos of anything, particularly, just good perspective on the universe, though it does touch on one of the great questions of fiction (specifically, why do so many aliens look human and speak English?) Another endlessly debated question of fiction regards the speed-rankings of the Man Of Steel and the Vizier Of Velocity, a battle which DC Comics has seen fit to revisit half a dozen times over the years. Mark Waid’s specialist rule (“Flash is faster than Superman because Superman has other abilities”) generally applies here, but the idea of Flash vs. Superman begs a slightly different query this morning…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) knows who’d win a fight between Batman and The Hulk, but you won’t like the response, asking: Given the choice, would you rather have ONLY super-speed or ONLY super-strength?

Well you could not have only Super-speed. The Flash would have to have some sort of super strength. if not his limbs would tear off. Like if you sent a Jet flying at the speed of sound (Flash moves faster) and then immediately eject, it would do some damage to your body. I would have to go with super strength, with it you could train your body to have super-speed, though not to the extent The Flash has. Plus there is so much that you could do with the super strength, just pray that it comes with some amount of invulnerability or even having super strength , having a building fall on you would still hurt.
I’d go with super strength. I mean, even if you didn’t have any other abilities, with super strength you could make a good living in the construction industry or metal working or in some sort of sports venue. Super speed has always struck me as being a rather second tier power. Not as lame as talking to fish, but almost that far down the bottom of the barrel.
Super speed.
That would be the ultimate awesome dream for me.
I’m not sure about Quicksilver, but the Flash’s speed, and how he manages to move so fast without physics tearing him and everything around him apart seems to usually be explained away with “Speed Force Aura”, which is good enough for me.
I wouldn’t know what to do with super-strength, but with super-speed? I’d see the world. I’d explore. I love taking long walks and to have that energy that seems to come with superspeed(speedsters never seem to think a worldwide trek is any kind of tiring).. that’d be magic.
Plus I love any power that requires you be creative in the usage of it.
Super Strength for the sole reason I’d not get as tired/sore getting myself around in my wheelchair (and I’m too broke to afford a motorized wheelchair at the moment).
I’d choose super speed without hesitation. Think about how much you could do or see with that. I like Quicksilver’s powers in particular, because his mind also works at high speed. He’s not super smart, but he can pick up skills pretty easily too.
Speed, definitely. The reason is simple too, over time, a drop if water dripping over the same spot can erode a mountain. With that in mind, super speed can accomplish fantastic feats like moving the Empire State Building across the country…. Just one or two bricks at a time. Super strength limits you to only feats of strength.
Definitely going to have to go with super strength. Seems like it has more practical uses, unless we’re talking about the OP Flash-style “thinking in attoseconds” kinda speed…
Super speed, given my metabolism doesn’t go totally out of whack. I’d love to travel in a fraction of the time.
Assuming you don’t need (or already have) the required secondary superpowers, I think speed would be the choice for me. In everyday situations, it would simplify my life, let me see the world, and give me more time; and in a superheroic context, the clever speedy person always has more options than the walking brick.
Super strength for me. For super strength to work you would have to be very durable(aka: invulnerable). Kinda comes with the turf. I could use my powers to hopefully make a positive difference in the world. Yeah, I know … chesesy.
Super speed for sure, would make everyday life much easier and travelling really cheap. Not to mention that fastest man alive would make nice living too as top athlete, for example.
if using super-speed doesn’t prematurely age you, or wear out your metabolism every few minutes, i’ll choose that. i’d rather be faster than the strongest dude on the street any day.
Super Speed; as displayed in previous issues, one of the “Flash Facts” states that with the increased speed, super strength follows with said speed. A piece of metal thrown at you won’t put a hole in your body. One fired by “a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and will blow you head clean off” . Same piece of metal means something completely different when supersonic speed hits an object.
As, I’m not real big on lifting, moving or throwing things, but I never seem to have time to get all my stuff done, I’d definitely go with Super Speed.
Super Strength had never really done anything for me, and even if I had there would still be tons of people who would insist that I shouldn’t be lifting anything for reasons varying from age to gender to size.. it’s frustrating enough already when I’m told not to do something I’m perfectly capable of without knowing I’m more than %100 better equipped to do it.
Speed seemed great, get through everything much faster without losing the quality! Amazing right?
But to paraphrase Quicksilver, “You know when you’re behind some old lady at the ATM and she just takes forever to get her PIN entered and she just keeps trying and trying until in your head you’re saying, “Come ON, I know you PIN by now!”? That’s what my entire life is like,”
So I think I’m gonna go with neither…
