Major Spoilers Poll of the Week
Last week, DC Comics kicked off Villains Month and the Forever Evil event with a series of lenticular covers. Obviously it’s a marketing gimmick that ups the cover price, shines the spotlight on the company, and hopefully gets the reader to pick up the book and buy it. But are you impressed with results?

Are you impressed with the end result of DC’s 3D “moving” covers?

Hellboy Volume 03: The Chained Coffin and Others (Hellboy Library Volume 2)
Mike Mignola’s story notes accompany the long out-of-print stories, giving insight into their creation and inspiration. Some consider Mignola’s short stories better than the full-length novels, and this collection makes a strong argument for that, especially with Mignola’s masterpiece, “The Corpse.”

Stephen, with regards to your discussion about DC, I think you strike at Hanlon’s Razor
“Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.”
Thanks for reviewing yet another big Mignolaverse book guys! Can’t get enough of this wonderful stuff.
If you haven’t become a monthly donor please do. It’s well worth the entertainment these guys bring us.
I do not really have an option on the DC issue (I have no talent for art) but the discussion makes me miss the Saturday podcast. You guys have the best in-depth conversations!!
It’s all just a time factor at this point. If we had more free time we could bring back the second MSP each week, as well as start up Finally Friday.
Then I will not have any more free time, I’m still trying to listen to all the old MSP’s so I am still getting my fix. Listening to issue 202 (May of 2010) now, it was right after the server crash.
I think this is probably one of the better reactions to the controversy, by showing all sides, even if some are through devil’s advocate, and not just ranting and raving.
The Harley Quinn thing…keep in mind that this a character that originated in children’s cartoon series, that my biggest beef with it all. I don’t care for what DC has turned Harley into and I don’t care for what Marvel has turned Deadpool into. I liked Deadpool better when he was just a badass mouthy merc without the voices and suicidal tendencies.
Acting as devil’s advocate, here, why is it that Stephen always responds to controversy by mocking fans that are upset? Not saying I’m on a side or anything, but I’m just asking the question. Why would someone be so condescending to people who are upset about something? Again, not taking sides, here.
Also, after years of listening to the same thing happen again and again–where Stephen brings up topics just to inflate his own tortured ego, and brings up controversy just to show how he must always be the voice of reason–I wanted to bring this up just to show another point of view.
I’ve seen others (like Rodrigo) who seem more egalitarian about their judgments, and present both sides of an issue without sounding like a nerdy, hipster, condescending dick. And I just was wondering why others could not.
Again, not taking sides. Just asking the question.
That’s a good question. And here’s the answer. The topic was Rodrigo’s idea, and since I knew what the view was of the others, I simply presented information from other sources. That is all. I also pointed people to some really great articles at other sites who took issue with Harley and DC.
Thanks for your comments!
