EW is reporting that James Spader has been signed to play Ultron for Avengers: Age of Ultron, the sequel to last years Avengers film. Now speculation is running on whether he’ll just be the voice of Ultron, or if Spader will be doing motion capture like Mark Ruffalo and Vin Diesel do for Hulk and Groot. Joss Whedon had made the announcement himself and you can see more of what he had to say after the jump.
“As a character I love [Ultron],” Whedon says, “because he’s so pissed off.”
“I knew right away what I wanted to do with him,” Whedon added. “He’s always trying to destroy the Avengers, goddamn it, he’s got a bee in his bonnet. He’s not a happy guy, which means he’s an interesting guy. He’s got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we’ll take away some of those powers because at some point everybody becomes magic, and I already have someone [a new character, Scarlet Witch]who’s a witch.”

Oh, thank God. Whedon’s description reassures me that Ultron will actually be the arrogant, totally unhinged, and yet eerily human character that I love (instead of the bland evil AI that he has more frequently been in the past decade).
