Today at Fan Expo Canada, DC Comics will announce (or has announced, or did announce depending on when you are reading this – Hello, Future People!), that Justice League America is uprooting and moving north to Canada.
The Toronto Star broke the news that Jeff Lemire (Canadian, of course) is taking the team to Canada following some yet, unannounced, and top secret brouhaha spinning out of Villains Forever. The action will take place throughout Toronto, but the team will be based in and around James Bay and Moosonee.
“I do want to create a cool, rural Northern Ontario headquarters for Justice League Canada, and I don’t want to spoil it yet,” said Lemire in the news article.
So who is going to be on the team? There are going to be ch-ch-ch-changes according to Lemire, with the big news that Adam Strange will be part of the team. In the New 52, Strange is also Canadian.
Lemire can’t say who will make up Justice League Canada, but says it is a “dream team” of A-list DC characters and some of his favourite oddball and more obscure heroes.
So, the team is moving north. Good! As much as we like to make fun of our friends across the border, I like the fact that the team is moving, and more importantly it sounds like the team HAS to move. This could make for some great storytelling in the months to come. We’ve seen JLA, and back in the Bwa-ha-ha days, we even had Justice League Europe. I don’t see any reason why we can’t have Justice League Canada.
I’m sure you have a few thoughts on this, that’s why there is a comment section below. And yes, let’s just get it all out of the way now, shall we?
