Papercutz, the industry’s leading children’s graphic novel publisher, has announced plans to publish an ongoing series of graphic novels featuring the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the heroic “teenagers with attitude” who kick-started the global phenomenon 20 years ago. Today, Power Rangers is the #1 live-action television series for boys, airing in 150 markets. With new a new iteration every season, longtime fans haven’t seen new adventures of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers since 1995.

“Ever since we began publishing POWER RANGERS comics, it’s been my dream to bring back the Mighty Morphin team,” said series editor Michael Petranek. “I grew up with the TV show, which makes this all the more special. I want to see Rita Repulsa again. I want to see stories that take place between the original episodes. We’ve been waiting over 15 years for new stories with these characters! With the 20th anniversary of the show’s debut this year, it just made too much sense not to do this.”

MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS will be a companion series to the main POWER RANGERS graphic novel series, which is aligned with the current television season airing on Nickelodeon, Power Rangers Megaforce.  Both will be written and illustrated by fan-favorite creative team Stefan Petrucha and PH Marcondes. The first volume of MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS releases in May 2014.

Popular with reluctant readers and gifted readers alike, Papercutz graphic novels cover a wide range of genres, reading levels, and favorite characters including The Smurfs, LEGO® NINJAGO, Geronimo Stilton, Nancy Drew, and many more. Papercutz is proud to be the largest standalone publisher exclusively dedicated to children’s graphic novels, with books available at all major retailers, bookstores, and comic book stores, and e-books available on comiXology, iVerse, and all e-reader devices.

I’m kinda hoping that they’ll take some cues from a few writers during the Disney era and revive the Dark Rangers from Marvel’s Power Rangers comics that were considered by at least a few writers as canon (and as one stated, a possible explanation why Jason had his morpher in “Forever Red”).
