Couldn’t be happier about this announcement – Francesco Francavilla, one of Major Spoilers’ favorite artists, has been tapped to do the art for Archie Comics’ zombie series, Afterlife with Archie.

Press release follows:

This fall, superstar artist Francesco Francavilla (Batman, The Black Beetle) will join Harvey award winning writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (MGM’s Carrie, The Town that Dreaded Sundown) on the highly anticipated ongoing horror series, Afterlife with Archie.

Francavilla won Best Cover Artist at the Eisners last year, in part, for his work on the covers for another high profile crossover, Archie Meets KISS. This will be his first interior work on an Archie title.

Aguirre-Sacasa just wrapped up his last Archie project, the epic 4-part Archie Meets Glee crossover, and was recently announced as the screenwriter for the upcoming live action Archie movie from Warner Bros.

Archie Comics will distribute Afterlife with Archie as a direct market only series, which sees a strong departure from typical Archie storylines. The zombie apocalypse begins in Riverdale on October 9th.

As odd as this sounds, I think this will be a high selling series, and Francesco providing the art will only push the issue over the top.
