When I first encountered the Venture Brothers, I found myself annoyed by the show’s status as a shameless ersatz version of Johnny Quest. For quite some time, I had no interest in the series (mostly because of the depiction of the death of Race Bannon in one of their episodes) but once I gave it a chance, I quickly disappeared down the show’s rabbit hole of recursive humor, ruminations on failure, and unconventional (but vivid and unique) world-building. As such, I’m more than a little bit psyched for the upcoming Season Five, and wondering what madness awaits us after the seemingly endless wait since Thanksgiving 2010. Of course, there are those who believe that delaying gratification only helps build anticipation for the eventual reveal of new material, but those people probably haven’t had to wait a decade for four seasons of television…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) reminds you that Smurfs don’t lay eggs! I won’t tell you this again! Papa Smurf has a $#&ing beard! They’re mammals, man, asking: What bits of pop-cultury goodness have you found to be totally worth the wait to enjoy?

Venture Bros., definitely I was there when “The Terrible Secret of Turtle Bay” first appeared on the Adult Swim and I’ve watched it ever since.
Thanks to Cartoon Network’s airing schedule, new episodes of JLU & Batman: the Brave and the Bold.
Though it’s only about a year between books, The Dresden Files is generally worth the wait for me to read, digest, and then spend hours discussing with friends.
In a similar vein (when I was younger) Harry Potter books.
Hellboy & all things Fables I wait for the trade so that may be months to a year in between readings. When I get the chance it’s always “… and that’s why this is my favorite.”
Now you will be quoting it all the time and no one will know what you are talking about. Just like my life. Seriously this is one of the greatest shows on TV right now!
As for waiting a while to enjoy, I skipped out on the Game of Thrones books until about 4 years ago, when I needed something to read on the bus and had had it recommended so many times. Since then I’ve pestered friends and family to read it and it took the first season of the show to finally convince them!
Avatar the Last Airbender and it’s sequel The Legend of Korra.
It’s a quality animated program and the production suffered from several long delays. Consequentially, The Legend of Korra has already been greenlit for more episodes. Presumably some, but by no means all, are for later in 2013.
On the Comic Book front, I always find Atomic Robo and Usagi Yojimbo worth the wait to read in trade paperback format.
The pop culture goodness that I used to wait for??
Hmm… Let start at the beginning.
When I was a kid it was every Saturday morning, and oddly the entire TGIF lineup.
As a teenager it was my weekly comic pull. Back when I could afford it because I had a job and no bills.
As an adult its the lineup of Clive Cussler novels,Harry potter(when there were new ones), Percy Jackson and The Olympian Novels (I read them and then share with my daughter.) And of course my line up of TV seasons of late. American Horror Story, Archer(Gods I can’t wait for the next season), Hells kitchen, master chef.
I have a lot more but I digress.
It is a pain in the backside waiting a year between the novels set in Percy Jackson’s world, but oh-so worth it. I felt kinda lucky coming in to the series when it was near the end of the first series (I think the next to last book had just come out when I read the first one?), but ever since the new series came out I’ve been waiting almost impatiently between releases.
Maybe I should stop getting them on release day.
Is it okay if I name a Webcomic? If so, Homestuck. Period. Right now it’s on hiatus while the creator works on a tie-in video game, so fans won’t be able to see it continue for a few more months yet, at least.
But for us it’s worth the wait, owing partly to how massive the fandom is and partly because it paused at a massive cliffhanger we all want to see followed up on.
