This week, on the Major Spoilers Podcast, we take a look at one of the biggest comic book characters from across the pond – Judge Dredd.
The first, fantastic Dredd saga is now available in an awesome paperback! When plague devastates Mega-City Two, Judge Dredd volunteers to deliver the vaccine that will save its last remaining inhabitants. But first, he and his crew have to travel 1,000 miles across the Cursed Earth, the savage radioactive wasteland which separates the cities. With cannibals, dinosaurs, mutants and insane robots between the Judges and their goal, it’s not going to be a smooth journey! Featuring work by fan favourite Brian Bolland (Batman: The Killing Joke) and classic Dredd artist Mike McMahon (Slaine), this shouldn’t be missed by any Judge Dredd or 2000 AD fan!

Just finished reading this arc, and it is enjoyable if a bit scattered. The art does hold up for me, and it’s good to see early Brian Bolland. However parts do feel very 70s, e.g. Jimmy Carter on Mt. Rushmore. The story does suffer from parts of the storyline not being reprinted because of legal isssues. Still it is a Judge Dredd storyline I would recommend with the caveat that it is not a typical storyline.
Good choice if you want to start at the beginning with out starting at the very beginning (some of the very early stuff is just painful). Look forward to hearing your views.
What a coincidence. I just started reading the complete case files a couple of weeks ago and this was the first Dredd story I ever read. I really enjoyed it but as with most older comics, the cracks start to show. And yes, some of the first Dredd stories are painful.
