Recently, I had the mixed fortune to witness a fascinating ritual, albeit in less-than-pleasing circumstances, reminding me of the existence of Secret Societies, even in the futuristic world of 2012. Sure, I used to drive past the Eagles lodge on my way to work, but it had literally never occurred to me that these things still existed. My own favorite take on the dark, shadowy organization manipulating from the shadows is still in Steve Englehart’s legendary run on Captain America in the early 1970s, leading to a tense confrontation between Steve Rogers and a “high-ranking government official” within the oval office itself! (Although, now that I think of it, The Mary Kay Commandoes are in a close second place.) I imagine that Stephen will likely have a few things to say on this one, likewise Otter Disaster, which is a clear enough reason to tempt fate and query the Faithful Spoilerites…
The MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) is down with the crew crew, talkin’ ’bout the Mu Mu, justified ancient Liberation Zulu, got to teach and everything you learn’ll point to the fact that time is eternal, asking:
What’s your favorite “Secret Society,” real or imagined?

The Guild of Calamitous Intent.
OWACA. Who else is equipped to deal with all that evil science?
I’d have to say the Evil League of Evil. I mean come on its run by a horse.
I just re-started listening to the Illuminatus! audio book late last week, so this is indeed timely. In that wonderful trilogy, any and all conspiracies and societies get linked back to the Illuminati (the granddaddy of them all) in one way or another. There are so many great and weird societies to choose from, but given my anarcho-capitalist tendencies, I’d have to choose (and am actually a member of) the Legion of Dynamic Discord.
From the Principia Discordia:
If you want in on the Discordian Society
then declare yourself what you wish
do what you like
and tell us about it
or
if you prefer
don’t.
There are no rules anywhere.

I’m not sure it’s secret, but it has been forgotten – Walt’s Kelly’s SWINE.
Students Wildly Indigent about Nearly Everything.
The Bildeberg Group an annual, unofficial, invitation-only conference of approximately 120 to 140 guests from North America and Western Europe, most of whom are people of influence. This Groups unofficially is plotting the course of the world direction.
Participants of which include Dick Gephardt, Sandy Berger, Henry Kissinger, Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Bill Clinton, John Edwards, Rick Perry, Al Haig, David Rockefeller, Ben Bernanke & Bill Gates.
That incomplete list is only some American participants. To date, nobodt knows what is discussed or how things are organized since the press is not even allowed on the property and guests are ushered in andout in secret.
The Jack Acid Society, of course.
Scourge of the swamp, those fellows are!
