With Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Marc Webb confirmed to return for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it comes as no surprise that Sony is looking for a certain redhead to create an awkward love triangle to the storyline.
According to Variety, Sony is in talks with Shailene Woodley to play Mary Jane Watson, the future love interest of Peter Parker following that thing on the bridge with Gwen. Woodley was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in Alexander Payne’s The Descendants.
Sony’s character breakdowns also indicate the studio is looking for someone to play Harry Osborn, and a “Mysterious Villain.” Following the end of The Amazing Spider-Man, the exchange between Curt Connor’s and a mystery man (played by Michael Massee) many believe that the big bad in the next film will be Electro.
It’s all rumor and speculation right now, and there is plenty of time for more fantasy building as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 doesn’t go before the lens until 2013.
