Dynamite Entertainment has announced that with the success of its fairy tale based Damsels series, it is spinning off the series into something all new, and the company is bringing Matthew Sturges into to pen the story.

“What Damsels does for dry land, this book does for the ocean,” says writer Matt Sturges. “We’ve got mermaids! Pirates! A kraken! Sirens! All wrapped up in fast-past coming-of-age story, filled with treachery, high adventure, and very probably some sharks.  (And maybe even a little romance for good measure.) In short: if it’s in a fairy tale or legend, and it’s wet, we’ve got it.”

For those of you not familiar with Matthew Sturges’ work, the scribe is the mind behind Jack of Fables, Black Beetle, House of Mystery, and Justice Society of America.  Sturges is also a member of the Tick Tock Men, an affiliation of writers who create works in the Clockwork Storybook Universe.

The Damsels spin-off kicks off in 2013.
