Simon Baz officially made his appearance this week in Green Lantern #0 and it seems that DC is betting on him being a popular character for they have announced he will soon have his own figure. Take the jump for the first image!
Announced on the same day as his inaugural appearance, DC announced via their DC Collectibles page that Simon Baz will join the ranks of the Lanterns before him and be made into an action figure. Only a few details are known about the figure: it will be a 6″ model and will be released Spring 2013. If I had to guess on a price I would say look for it to be in the mid-20s range to go with the figures releasing in the same line. Even though we haven’t seen Simon in his Lantern outfit yet I’m liking what we have seen, especially how his tattoo glows green, glad that they incorporated that here.

I’m glad to see an Arab-American superhero. But while the cultural curator at the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, MI thinks Simon is the right character for the job, I disagree. I don’t see how a gimp mask and a gun makes him a compelling character, especially as a Green Lantern. He looks like he’s about to knock off a liquor store on Oa, not protect his sector.
Meh.
Seriously. I understand the mask, but why on earth does he have a gun? Have they explained that? If it’s on the toy, it must be for keeps.
It was dumb enough when they introduced the gun toting Black Ops GLs last year. It’s crazy.
Also, his gloves are stupid.
There was a comic where some GLs were fighting a big baddie and the rings didn’t do shit. So Guy Gardner taught his fellows how to shoot, and they took the big bad down with pure fire power.
The gun makes sense, you want a back up weapon.
I’m honestly surprised more Lanterns aren’t carrying a backup weapon of some sort. Gun, sword, giant hammer, whatever. Back when they had the “yellow impurity” (before it was retconned that it could be overcome) I always thought it would be practical to carry some sort of backup as well as having some sort of lightweight armor underneath the uniform (like an alien tech version of what swat teams and negotiators would wear, only more covering) just in case the situation made the ring itself useless.
I just can’t look at him without seeing Ambush Bug.
Glad I’m not the only one!
Absolutely horrible
does the earth sector need another green lantern?
So if his ring malfunctions during a fight with a space dragon or an alien terror horde, at least he has his carjacker’s pistol as backup.
Seriously? Why not just give him a rock to throw? Or a board with a nail in it?
Don’t knock the awesome power of a board with a nail in it.
