Normal fans are awesome. Fans that create and then upload videos to YouTube of their flying creations are the awesomest. After the jump is a real-life S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier flying across the water.

YouTube user native118 I stand and applaud you. Watching that made me so fan boy giddy, and now I want to fly my own. Maybe Stephen will buy one so we can all play with it!

That’s cool. I wonder how they steer it. I will say that the movie helicarrier was a lot more realistic looking than the one in the comic books, which was a blimp with four helicopters welded to it. The concept is on par with the giant airplanes that were imagineered in the 1920s and 30s. I remember one drawing of a giant seaplane whose upper wing served as an airport for normal sized planes. Silly as all get out, but neat. So far as I know, Howard Hughes was the only person who attempted to actually build and fly a super-giant airplane – the Spruce Goose, and he only flew it once. I think the rule “the bigger they are, the harder they fall applied to aircraft as well as bullies. Kudos to the clever people who figured out how to make the model work!
