Warner Bros. has announced that the third film in what is quickly becoming a Peter Jackson epic trilogy now has a release date.

For those wondering when Smaug would get his, the title of the second film has been named as The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which means the third film is more than likely going to focus on the battle for the ring, and the “Back Again” portion of the J.R.R. Tolkien story.

The third movie arrives July 28, 2014, which puts it right at the end of the summer movie season, and that may actually be a good thing.
