Creature Academy: The Legacy, a new steampunk fantasy adventure comic, launches its Kickstarter campaign this month—to tell an edgy tale about kids and their magical creatures teaming up to fight the evil forces that kidnapped their parents.
THE ADVENTURE
Wes Mendes, 14, has lived his whole life on the run with his mom. When she gets kidnapped by evil forces, they come for him next. So he must hide in a city where the human and the magic worlds collide. There Wes joins a team of kids and their magical creatures, at a school like no other. He finds his own magical creature and leads the team on a dangerous quest to destroy the evil and save their parents.
CROWD SOURCING & COMICS
Creator Kevin Hanna and artist Grant Bond are comic book veterans who collaborated on the best-selling graphic novel The Clockwork Girl. The Creature Academy project is part of the rising trend of comic book creators using crowd-sourced funding to launch new titles. Because Kickstarter attracts so many comic book fans to new projects such as Creature Academy, Kickstarter is now considered one of N. America’s largest comic book publishers.
CREATORS
Creature Academy’s creator, Kevin Hanna, does art for animation, comics and video games, and is best known for the award-winning graphic novel The Clockwork Girl and the Web comic, Frogchildren. He also directed the full-length feature film of The Clockwork Girl premiering in 2013.
Creature Academy’s lead artist/colors, Grant Bond, works with Kevin Hanna for the first time since The Clockwork Girl. Bond’s other comics art credits include DC’s Trick ‘r Treat and The Adventures of Archibald Aardvark from Image Comics.
