If you like practical effects, and you have a ton of money, get your butt on a plane to Japan and check out the exhibit at Tokyo’s Museum of Contemporary Art on the subject. Of, you could take the jump and check out the live action short from the beginning of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.

When the giant monsters appeared at the beginning of the Studio Ghibli film, no one imagined the sequence could be done live action with no CGI effects.  That is why Hideaki Anno, director of Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Studio Ghibli teamed to produce this featurette for the museum exhibit.

The exhibit is currently running until October 08, 2012.
