Jeez guys, you are REALLY diverse in your tastes (except for Stephen, who’s a bland fuddy-duddy). Here’s my top five, from 5 to 1 (WARNING: I have a MASSIVE sweet tooth):
5.) E.L. Fudge Stuffed Cookies- a better alternative to Oreo’s, with buttery, crispy halves and creamy, chocolatey center. I can’t get enough of these.
4.) Girl Scout’s Thin Mints- the only Girl Scout’s cookie I crave, though I can eat the other ones just fine (the same way I can eat the putty out of the window just fine). These delicate little morsels of dark chocolate coating and cool minty cream are heavenly.
3.) Little Debbie’s Fudge Rounds- a nostalgic childhood favorite, these Chocolaholic’s Nightmares were always fun to scarf down during school lunches.
2.) Peperidge Farm’s Milano Cookies- I especially love the Raspberry and Mint variety, so much so that the bags often don’t even make it to the car once I pull them off the shelf; if it were legal, I would devour every bag of Milano cookies in the store and pay in full without buying anything else.
1.) Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies- my Mother’s specialty, these were always available during the holiday season. However, the real reason is because of “The Santa Claus” movie, with Dudley Moore, in which Santa remarks “Chocolate chip! They’re my favorite!”. In this cold, cruel world of reality and reason, eating Santa Claus’s favorite cookie helps me to feel like a kid again.
I had to comment of this. I’d have to say that the choices of favorite cookies for me are based around my experiences growing up and being from the South.
5. Girl Scout Thin Mints-I’ve always loved mints and these are some of my favorite cookies that the Girl Scouts sell. I always try to buy a box if I can.
4. Chips Ahoy cookies-I’ve eaten Chips Ahoy cookies since I was little. I love dipping them in milk until they are just about ready to fall to the bottom of the glass. I sometimes miss that moment and have to eat the cookie debris out of the bottom of the glass when I drink the milk.
These next three are the ones that mean the most to me and are the real reason I’m writing this reply.
3. Moon Pies-I’m not sure these are considered cookies but they are made from cookie like parts. I remember getting these when I was little and loving them. I see them here in Oregon but for me they are a part of the South. I always loved the Chocolate Moon Pies. I’d love how the cookie part always crumbled out of your mouth.
2. Lemon Coolers-These are a cookie that are not even made any more. They were always so fresh and lemony. They were covered in powdered sugar. I know that there is a company that has started making a cookie that is close to the Lemon Coolers but they just haven’t hit the mark.
1. My mothers Cocoon cookies-These cookies don’t come from a bakery, or a cookie company. These cookies are made by my Mom and my Grandmother before her. We only have them once a year but I know that when Deda, the name I call my mom, makes Cocoon’s, Christmas is here. They are soft, have pecan bits and are covered in powdered sugar. For me, these little cookies epitomize Christmas and being home for the holidays.
These are my Top Five Cookies.
Lemon Coolers are the same as Lemon Bars Matthew describes, and I will bet money that your Cocoon cookies are the same as the Christmas cookies I described based on Rodrigo’s Mexican cookie choice.
If Lemon Coolers are the cookies I think they are then the new girl scout cookies, Savannah Smiles, are pretty much identical to them.
Small round crispy lemon flavored cookies, covered in powdered sugar.
They show up on my top 5 list too.
I like cookies in general, but my favorite Girl Scout cookie is Samoas (the ones with caramel, chocolate and coconut on a shortbread cookie) I may have to try Rob’s zucchini cookies as they sound weirdly good!
As a fellow fat guy, I like all kinds of cookies. These are my top 5:
5: The original Oreo. A great cookie that can be eaten alone, with milk or crushed up in ice cream. My dad lovex to dunk then in his coffee. You can’t go wrong with an Oreo.
4. Samoas. The perfect mix of caramel, coconut and chocolate on a shortbread cookie. So good, they are almost addictive.
3. Macaroons. I love coconut and these really satisfy that coconut craving.
2. The Nilla Wafer. Simple, sweet, and delicious. A great base for peanut butter and jelly. Also, a great substitute for graham crackers when making smores.
And finally… drum role please
1. Peanut Butter Rice Crispie Treats. When I was a kid, I would spend every weekend with my grandparents. My grandmother would have a batch of these waiting for me when I got off the school bus on Friday afternoon, and by Sunday afternoon the were history. She is no longer with us, but her cookies live on. Love you always Grandma.
P.S.
While I will not dispute the size of Matthew’s brain pan, when it comes to comics and pop culture. I must however point out, that the Cannoli is not a cookie.
According to wikipedia.
Cannoli are Sicilian pastry desserts. The singular is cannolo (or in the Sicilian language cannolu), meaning “little tube”, with the etymology stemming from the Latin “canna”, or reed. Cannoli originated in Sicily and are an essential part of Sicilian cuisine. They are also popular in Italian American cuisine and in the United States are known as a general Italian pastry, while they are specifically Sicilian in origin. In Italy they are commonly known as “cannoli siciliani”, Sicilian cannoli.
While I will not dispute the size of Matthew’s brain pan, when it comes to comics and pop culture. I must however point out, that the Cannoli is not a cookie.
Expecting that I only know comics and pop culture is a mistake made by many, with consequences that are seldom pleasant. ;)
Peeks through the blinds, expecting to see a large American sedan pulling into my driveway. I think I hear speed metal in the distance now.
As a precaution, I will be installing burglar bars on the doors and windows.
No one wants to face the wrath of Matthew.
LOL
hey guys, love this episode and u guys made me hungry for days after this one. My top 5 may be different from alot of other top 5s already posted because i live in a different country, rather than the United States. That country is Australia, so heres my top 5:
5) chocolate chip cookies. these are awesome and i can usualy pick them up from Coles before school for about $2AUS. realy dirt cheap but they keep me happy through out the boring school day.
4) Oreos. same concept since im only in 11th grade this year better than choc chip and are sometimes on sale.
3) I have no idea what my no. 3 is called but its the shortbread cookie with the jam in the center. sometimes my mum will bring home some from the supermarket and they will be gone before they even get to the pantry.
2) Homemade peanut butter cookies. holy crap, they are so tasty i could eat a tonne of them if i didnt have to play baseball every saturday (BTW thank you America for baseball, i enjoy it way better than cricket).
1) My number 1 is actualy a fairly healthy biscuit considering all things, and its realy easy to make. i can make them and im 16. after listening to this episode i made a whole batch of them. traditionaly i think you were ment to have them on anzac day, and they are of corse…. ANZAC BISCUITS!!!!!! They are made out of rolled oats and goldern syrup, they are chewy and delicious, reasonable healthy and i could eat them all the time (if i could be bothered making them :P)
so thats my top 5 hope you guys liked it. :)
