While we don’t know all of the announcements Dark Horse Comics will make during their The Future of Star Wars Publishing panel at the San Diego Comic Con this Friday, Brian Wood has let the world know he will be writing an ongoing Star Wars book for the company.
Wood posted on his Tumblr feed:
I’m writing an ongoing Star Wars book for Dark Horse. Not just any Star Wars book, this will be called “Star Wars”, and will be set in the original trilogy, using the classic characters, and will pretend like its 1977 and no other films were every made or books ever written aside from “A New Hope”. Carlos D’Anda is on art, Gabe Eltaeb on colors, and Alex Ross on covers.
Alex Ross doing the covers!? Set in the original trilogy universe AND using classic characters? Throw in a giant green rabbit and a girl in a pink bikini, and you can have my money right now, Dark Horse.

I wonder if this is another “alternate timelines” deal like the Infinities comics, or if it is going to try to be like the old Marvel comics and try to fill in the blanks between movies. Because the wording of “pretend like no other films or books were ever made” sounds a bit like they are going to build their own version of the Star Wars Universe rather than even trying to stick with what has been established, which could be pretty fun just like Infinities and the old Marvel comics both were.
