Ape Entertainment, developers of the massively popular Pocket God Comics and Cut the Rope: Comic, along with Halfbrick Studios, developers of Fruit Ninja, announced a new licensing agreement to create a series of original digital comic books and graphic novels based on the game that has been downloaded over 300 million times. The comic series will explore the yet untold backstory of the juicy Fruit Ninja universe and its new colorful characters.
“A key goal for Halfbrick is to bring our content to even more fans around the world,” says Halfbrick’s Chief Marketing Officer, Phil Larsen. “By expanding the Fruit Ninja universe with new stories, characters and adventures, Halfbrick and Ape Comics are free to explore an unlimited number of creative opportunities for comics and take the brand in even more exciting directions.”
Halfbrick has released Fruit Ninja for iPhone, Android, Facebook, Xbox 360 Kinect and countless other digital platforms. The starring characters Sensei, Gutsu and Truffles have been featured on a wide range of licensed products including T-shirts, Gummy Candy & Fruit Snacks and Toys and Games.
Ape Entertainment plans to release the full-color comic book series digitally through a standalone Fruit Ninja comics app on the App Store as well as print versions in the coming months.
“Fruit Ninja is a mobile masterwork and we’re very excited to turn every slice of juiciness into a comic series fans will love,” said David Hedgecock, CEO of Ape Entertainment.
The deal was brokered by HAP Consulting, Halfbrick’s worldwide licensing agent.
