The first trailer for Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph has arrived, and it is really cool that there are a number of ’80s video game characters appearing in the movie.

Wreck-It Ralph (voice of Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan—win a medal—but soon wrecks everything, and accidently unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Silverman), a young troublemaking “glitch” from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it’s “Game Over” for the entire arcade?

Wait, did Disney get licensing permissions or are they just working under the assumption of “We’re Disney, nobody’s gonna mess with us”?

Because Nintendo is notorious for protecting its copyrights.

That being said, it looked intriguing.

A quick google search didn’t say anything specific about acquiring permission, but it does seem to suggest they have.

But they did get permission to use copyrighted characters in Toy Story, so I don’t think they would have forgotten to do it this time around.

This is like Toy Story for gamers.

It looks like it could be pretty good, can’t wait to see it.

I hope that it doesn’t bite Toy Story or Monsters Inc. too much. Other than that, it looks really fun. They couldn’t have gotten this far without securing the rights, just making this trailer would have cost millions. Its about time someone with major dollars took a crack at making a movies about video games instead of a video game movie.

I also like how other characters like Zangief and Kano are in the trailer.
As much as i dislike John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman, i am really looking forward to this.

If you’ll forgive me articulating the joys of privilege for a moment, I feel like I’m being pandered to and I like it. I thought I was out of the all-important “Nuts & Gum: Together At Last” demographic, but apparently not. There’s something that feels wonderfully legitimising about seeing popular Gaming history expertly packaged up for mainstream consumption in this way.

Funnily enough, whilst everyone else has mentioned Toy Story as a reference point, my first thought was Shrek/Donkey. Well, that was my first coherent thought, at least. Everything preceeding that involved squeeing and nostalgia.

Looking forward to this, even if it turns out “just OK”.

A Movie, I wouldn’t mind going to see, seems to cross the generations of gamers. One of the few animated movies trailers besides Ice Age that I actually laughed at………………
