Ever since I was a little kid, I have found a unique sort of calm inside drive-through car washes.  Today, while cleansing the Chrysler (there’s a bird nesting directly above my carport) I was enveloped in that sensory vacuum, hearing only the whooshing of soap and the trundling noise of the hose assemblies, when I suddenly had an epiphany.  A Question Of The Day appeared to me like a vision, like unto a great twine ball on the horizon, hovering before my unbelieving eyes…  It was a question of such simple perfection that I teared up a little to contemplate it (although that may just have been burning oil in the enclosed space of the wash bay.)

That existential, providential and oh so very confidential MS-QOTD (pronounced, as always, “misquoted”) is as follows:  If the aliens showed up tomorrow, preparing to destroy ALL pop culture, but offered to leave you a single medium of entertainment to make you a more tractable worker in their mines, what would you choose?

If it were one type of entertainment for everyone, I would choose movies. It leaves a pretty big variety to choose from and there would be something for almost everyone to enjoy no matter what type they like.

If it were one type of entertainment for me personally, though, I’d choose tokusatsu entertainment. I think I could be happy watching Godzilla, Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Ultraman and all that stuff for the rest of my life. Wouldn’t be all that much different from now, really.

Not trying to suck up here, but podcasting in general and Critical hit in particular.

I would choose books. They can be entertaining and informative depending on the medium. So we don’t lose our culture and knowledge I think this would be the best option. Though I am probably being a little too serious for this hypothetical.

I think podcasts would work well, as I would be able to listen to them WHILE working in the mines, so I could work longer without having to take entertainment breaks

Why would you want to work longer and be more productive for your overlords? I for one would use my off time to educate myself and seed the rebellion…at least that makes better TV ;P Ever seen V? lol

DIY might have some ideas on how to build things that might help with the general situation and possibly ridding our world of these vile creatures.

    Or porn.

Someone had to say it. I may as well be the first.

Once upon a time, there was a young nerd from the Midwest, who loved Matter-Eater Lad and the McKenzie Brothers... If pop culture were a maze, Matthew would be the Minotaur at its center. Were it a mall, he'd be the Food Court. Were it a parking lot, he’d be the distant Cart Corral where the weird kids gather to smoke, but that’s not important right now... Matthew enjoys body surfing (so long as the bodies are fresh), writing in the third person, and dark-eyed women. Amongst his weaponry are such diverse elements as: Fear! Surprise! Ruthless efficiency! An almost fanatical devotion to pop culture!

And a nice red uniform.
