The first really good look of Johnny Depp as Barnabas has been released by Vanity Fair for the upcoming Dark Shadows movie.
In 1752, the Collins family sails from Liverpool, England to North America. The son, Barnabas, grows up to be a wealthy playboy in Collinsport, Maine and is the master of Collinwood Manor. He breaks the heart of a witch, Angelique Bouchard, who turns him into a vampire and buries him alive. In 1972, Barnabas is accidentally freed from his coffin and returns to find his once-magnificent manor in ruin. It is occupied by dysfunctional Collins descendants and other residents, all of whom have secrets.
Dark Shadows is directed by Tim Burton based on a screenplay by Seth Grahame-Smith. Dark Shadows is expected to arrive in theaters in May 2012.

Hmmm… I hope they have some reason why he is so pale. Barnabus was never that powdery-white. Keeping my hopes high, because I have such fond memories of the original. Loved when Sci-Fi channel showed two eps back to back each day. I like that they are setting it in 1972. The key is getting the character of Willie Loomis right!!
Shouldn’t Vampires have much bigger mouths? He’ll need a straw to suck any blood!
Burton has stock in a greasepaint factory. That’s all I can figure.
The basic story is that Barnabas, once freed, shows up at Collinwood pretending to be a long-lost descendant of the original Barnabas. Here’s the problem: while there is a certain amount of inbreeding in the Collins family (Roger’s wife is also his grandmother — long story), no one is going to see THAT version show up at the door and think “long lost relative who amazingly looks like his ancestor”; they’re going to be grabbing crosses and sharpening stakes
Never understood why producers go back to old IP’s like this, then destroy them. Old fans hate the revamps and newer audience members have no clue what the property is. Why not just start fresh with a Johnny Depp Vampire Movie and leave the classics alone.
