TELEVISION: CW finds a real beauty for Beauty and the Beast

When the CW airs its new Beauty and the Beast television drama, you’ll see a very familiar (and beautiful) face on the small screen.

Smallville star Kristin Kreuk has been cast as the female lead in Beauty and the Beast, based “loosely” on the CBS series from the 1980s.

It centers on Catherine (Kreuk), a tough-minded NYPD homicide detective haunted by witnessing her mother’s murder nine years ago and the killers’ quick demise at the hands of a Beast. After years of searching, Catherine finally finds the Beast, Vincent Koslow, the survivor of a military experiment that went disastrously wrong, and becomes the protector of his secret life as a superhero.

Gary Fieder is directing based on the script by Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper, who are executive producing with the original B&B creator, Ron Koslow.

  1. Kreuk has a beautiful smile but it’s a pity so many of her roles has her sullen or scowling… if they manage to have her naturally smile in a plot-structure that sounds fairly intense, I’m sure audiences will fall in love with her again… if they don’t, we’re going to have an uncomfortable repeat of her last seasons on Smallville or the abomination that was Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.
