Press Release
What was rumored as an April Fools’ joke has turned into a full-blown miniseries sure to bring laughs and excitement. Dark Horse Comics is proud to announce Groo vs. Conan!
It had to happen: The most heroic warrior in history meets the stupidest, as Robert E. Howard’s immortal Conan the Barbarian crosses swords with Sergio Aragonés’s Groo the Wanderer in Groo vs. Conan #1!
This four-issue miniseries was concocted by the Eisner Award–winning team of Mark Evanier and Sergio Aragonés, aided by master illustrator Thomas Yeates and master colorist Tom Luth. Will Conan annihilate Groo? Will Groo turn out to be the man who can defeat Conan? We’ll see.
Groo vs. Conan is on sale April 18, 2012!

I was about to say that Conan would win because Groo is merely a parody of Conan. But is he? Both of them are over-muscled chowderheads with big swords who indiscriminately slaughter their way through entire civilizations. If they got the artist from the Conan comics to draw Groo and Sergio to draw Conan, there’d be no difference between them. Which means it’s a case of a shadow fighting a reflection. I was also about to say that Groo is stupider than Conan until I remember watching the Conan movies. Let’s see: choice A: Go off and slay giant snakey monsters. choice B: Stay here and make out with sexy broad who is hot for me. What does Conan do? He leaves the broad to take on the monsters. Ergo, he is no brighter than Groo.
Is Conan a mindless oaf? I haven’t read much, but the little I have read has him as a great thief and a great general… Hardly mindless jobs…
Cerebus would kick both their asses, in third person yet!
I like both characters, so this should be a fun crossover. It might not be a very serious crossover event, but I do like to take a step back from the rational once in a while and see something fun like this.
I want this! This is better than Archie meets the Punisher.
Love it!

I’m wondering what finally convinced M.E. and Sergio to do a crossover. For years, the running joke was that any Groo crossover would last 2 panels. 1. Groo meets character. 2. Groo kills character.
“Groo is not a half-wit! Groo is not even HALF a half-wit!”
