Worst of 2011: The overall lack of Amazing movies.
Best of 2011: Robert Kirkman having to release fecal matter.
Like many great comic tropes I think the best and worst of 2011 was actually the same thing: The paradigm shift from the paper, gotta get to the local store, approach to delivering comic content to the amazing worlds of TV, digital access, cinematic films, and the web.
I realize that all of these delivery mechanisms were used *before* 2011, but any year that can survive such a huge number of comic properties in cinema and *not* have it proclaimed the death of the comic film shows that comics and comics properties are more mainstream than anyone would previously admit.
The fact that one of the hippest new family of gadgets (I refer to e-readers, not underwear…get your minds out of the gutter) supports reading comics in a big way is a huge shift that will keep comics alive in decades to come.
All this evolution means that we are likely to lose a lot of what we have loved about comics…but we will still have comics.
I think the best of 2011 was the new 52. I am relatively new to comics and it was difficult getting into DC books without knowing a lot of back story. The relaunch really gave people like me an opportunity to hop onto books from the beginning.
I think a best award should also be given to the Roll Like a D6 parody video which was hilarious. It made gaming look amazingly cool.
I think the worst of 2011 was that Wonder Woman costume designed for the tv show that never aired. The costume was completely silly and unrealistic. I’m glad the show never aired.
Thank you Major Spoilers for consistently producing a great show every week. I know I have been donating monthly because I really want to see you guys succeed.
If Matthew is going to use his review of “The Death of Optimus Prime” to get back into Transformers comics,it was just a one shot.
